Cooper has been raw feed at the breeder and as Molly is also it should be an easy transition but I was wondering at what age do I start adding supplements to his food? I'm really just thinking of vit c, e and fish oil.

Any advice would be warmly received thank you smile

When I got Caleb, his breeder suggested starting him on fish oil, etc right away. I think she was already giving him a little any way.

His breeder is also a vet and recommends a raw diet.

Yep, I did what Lisa recommended and started giving fish oil right away when Sundance came home.

Those supplements I think of more as nutrients that are beneficial to balance out any diet. If you look at it that way, it makes sense to start.

This is a slight hijack, but the big question for me, is when to start adding a low dose joint supp. This has worked well for me with the two dogs I have had, but, getting a pup, I'm not sure when I would start adding this, since I like to do that before I start seeing symptoms.

I had thought about getting a pup this summer, but don't see that happening with Max, but sorta thinking what it might be like starting with a healthy dog - I have never had that experience!

I'm very excited for you guys bianca, such a fun time!

There are some articles on there about vitamin C helping to prevent HD/ED. Your body needs C to process the glucosamine (other something similar to that - can't remember the specifics). I would add a natural source of vitamin C to his diet such as rose hips or acerola berries.

Right, but at some point, I would want more than vitamin C, and more than glucosamine for that matter.

yeah...ok...but at this point Cooper is still a baby so doesn't need a joint supplement. However, the article did point to a correlation to Vitamin C at a young age.

OP - I prefer whole food sourced supplements. From what I've read, a whole food source is more effective so the "dose" doesn't need to be as high because it is "whole" and not just a component. If you google C and food source, you should find a list of which foods are highest in C. A particular rose hip and acerola cherries were the highest. I just sprinkle the rose hips on Jax's food. They are sweet so she scarfs it right down.
