This is all happening very quickly, so bear with me... i have become aware of a situation in the development where I live that will leave a 1 yr. old female GSD without a home... The husband is beating the wife, bad, and threatening to kill her. They have children, young ones... They also have 5 birds, a black lab and a GSD. She is leaving this weekend, she is at the police station now... The birds r homed, the lab is most definitely spoken for. I let some close friends know about this baby girl GSD, have not heard back. Figured I would run in past my hubby, just so he doesnt feel like i didnt tell him.... right off the bat, he wants her. He said he will not watch her go to a kill shelter because of something that is completely out of her control, shes just a baby... So now, I suppose, we r getting another dog... I understand I have to see how things play out between her and my other dogs, and i am well prepared for this event. She is a young dog, i know i can work with her... My only thing would be the worry of how Dixie will respond to another female coming into the mix.... BTW, the feeling im getting from knowing im helping this innocent little girl is UNREAL! I am getting a tiny taste of the overwhelming feeling pure joy u get from doing rescues and it is AWESOME!

i will def. be keeping everyone posted, ALOT! im gonna be needing advice im sure too.... im ready tho... i havent heard anything, except that the woman is at the police station... According to the lady i have been talking to, its going to be hard for her to let any of the animals go... i do know she called a battered woman's shelter, but they told her she couldnt bring her kids and she wont leave them with him

If you are taking her in I wold suggest having her and your Dixie meet in neutral territory, like a park and see how it goes. Keep them close but separated in crates for awhile and watch closely. Hopefully it will work out.

Are you serious?? They wouldn't take her kids with her? How sad. What shelter would tell a battered woman she had to leave her kids with the abusive partner?

I do hope you can take her dog in - is there any chance it might be temporary until she gets on her feet?

Im pretty upset about the womens shelter not taking her kids too, but that a WHOLE other issue, lol... we r definitely taking the dog in, its just so quick, i need a minute to get used to the fact the i will have 5 dogs, lol... i already cleared it with the woman who takes care of my dogs when we go away. its just a big, "hey how ya doin!!!!" to me, lol.... a whole other dog, the size of Dixie, joining the family.... im just so concerned about Dixie and her getting along... i need MAJOR advice on letting 2 females meet and getting them to live together...

That was my thought, too. I've never heard of a shelter that wouldn't allow a mother to bring her kids. That's just WRONG.

Thank you for taking the dog. I hope it all works out really well and thank goodness you have the hubby you do. Mine would do the same thing and he'd take the kids, too.
